  1. The town of Chester's proposed $16 million budget for the 2023-’24 fiscal year will go to a vote on May 23. The proposed budget represents a 4.99% increase from the current year’s budget. The town meeting for the vote will be held at 7 p.m. at the Chester Meeting House. For more information and full budget details click here. (Zip06.com)

Memorial Day is just around the corner and the town of Essex is ready for its annual Memorial Day Parade, which will be held on Monday, May 29th starting at 9 a.m. Participants will assemble at the foot of Main Street at 8:45 am. The parade will start at the Essex waterfront and proceed to the Essex Town Hall, where it will stop for a prayer and a salute after which it will continue to the Essex Veterans' Memorial Hall in Centerbrook. A ceremony and the conclusion of the Parade will take place there at approximately 10:30 am. There will be clam chowder, hot dogs, and ice cream served by the members of the Essex Veterans' Memorial Hall. In advance of the parade the Essex Veterans will be honoring veterans at the Riverview Cemetery, First Baptist Church Cemetery, and Centerbrook Cemetery on Saturday May 27th at 10 a.m. and the new American Flags will be placed on the graves on Sunday, May 21st by the Boy Scouts.
