Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:
- Connecticut residents now have less than a year to obtain their REAL ID in order to fly domestically starting May 3, 2023. According to an article written by Rich Kirby, "residents will no longer be allowed to board flights or visit federal facilities and military bases with ordinary driver's licenses or ID cards on that date. Those who do not have a REAL ID will need a valid U.S. passport to fly within the country. You don't require a REAL ID-compliant license if you already have a valid US passport, an enhanced driver's license CT, or a DHS Trusted Traveler Card. (Patch)
- Parents mark your calendars for a Bushy Hill Nature Center visit with some animal friends! Get up close and personal with some of their residents and find out how similar the animals are to people! The event will be held on the lawn of the Deep River Library on Thursday, September 15 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Please bring your own blanket or chairs. In the event of rain, we will move this program indoors. (Faceboook)
- The first ever Compassion Walk, will be held on Saturday October 1. The event is an accessible and inclusive walk to benefit A Little Compassion Inc. non-profit. According to the Walk's website, "the purpose of the event is to bring the community together to celebrate inclusion, acceptance and opportunity for all. All proceeds will go to benefit A Little Compassion (ALC). The walk will begin and end at Deep River Elementary School on Saturday, October 1 at 9 a.m. with food, fun and children's activities! ALC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to change the lives of young adults with autism or other neurodiversity. Through its programs, young adults develop the skills they need to overcome the daunting barriers they face in finding and keeping meaningful work as well as becoming engaged and active members of our community." Hope to see you there! (Compassion Walk)
