1. Sixth grader at Deep River Elementary School, Zander Peno-Bubie, loves helping others and regularly does what he can to gathering donations for The Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries (SSKP). Zanders sells baked goods and painted rocks with inspirational sayings to raise money, among other things. He then takes the money to purchase items for those in need, such as toiletries and other needed items. According to Zip06.com Zander said, '“I like helping people that are in need."' When he is not out doing good for his community, Zander, like many of his classmates, participates in athletics and is active in two math clubs. Great job Zander! (Zip06.com)
2. Looking for something fun to do with the little ones during these cold winter weekends? Head on over to the Essex Library's STEAM Saturdays series for school-age children in kindergarten through grade 6. On Saturday, February 25, at 10 a.m. children will explore how soap molecules are formed, and experiment with household ingredients to create bubbles that don’t pop! Registration required as seating is limited. 3. The famed Ivoryton Playhouse will be holding local auditions for non- equity actors for a summer production of "The Sound of Music". According to a press release from the theatre, the auditions will be held at the Ivoryton Playhouse Administrative Offices, 22 Main Street in Centerbrook on Monday, February 13th from 4-6pm.
