- The Smith & Wesson facility in Deep River is shutting down, leaving many without jobs. According to an article written by Patch staffer Chris Rhatigan, "A total of 117 employees will lose their jobs as a Smith & Wesson facility in Deep River will shut down, according to a document filed with the state Department of Labor. The layoffs will be in rounds beginning Aug. 4. Most employees continue until the facility closes Dec. 31, 2024, when 71 workers will be laid off." (Essex-Chester-Deep River Patch)
- The Essex Resident Trooper's Office wants to remind residents that recently multiple communities throughout Connecticut, including Westbrook, Old Lyme and Haddam, have experienced overnight thefts from vehicles. They are urging local residents to, "please be mindful to: “Take your keys, remove your valuables, lock your vehicle.” These simple steps will deter most criminals." The Essex Resident Trooper’s Office and Essex Police have been working diligently to prevent vehicle-related crimes of opportunity. If you happen to catch thieves on your home or business video surveillance system (doorbell camera), please email the footage along to Resident Trooper Mark Roberts via email (mroberts@essexct.gov) with your name, address, and telephone number. This information will remain confidential and may potentially help your neighbors and aid in investigations. - In an effort to support all Region 4 Schools Tri-Town Youth Services is asking that everyone participate in the Tri-Town Sustainable Composting Fundraiser.
