Here are the top four stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:
- The three R's recycle, reuse and repurpose are at the center of the mission of the Pandemonium Thrift Shop, located at 112 West Elm St. in Deep River. The rest of the mission is rescuing and rehabilitating endangered animals and help with the conservation of wildlife. A dream come true for owner Allison Sloane the thrift shop, book nook and cafe she and business partner Nancy Olson, have created in Deep River in a building once dedicated to the Ivory industry has become what CT Insider calls a "shopper's paradise." The unique business is a great place to search for that special gift for the holidays that you won't find anywhere else. If you haven't already, stop in, hang out with the many and varied animals on "staff," support local and have a great time. Hope to see you there soon. (CT Insider)
- Nestled on a quiet street in a wooded area of Chester is a unique and inviting Alpaca farm called, Chakana Sky Alpacas. According to WTNH.com, “Chakana is the symbol up there – that’s the Inca cross or the Andean cross,” says Bill Bernhart, pointing to the top of his barn.
That’s why he named his property Chakana Sky Alpaca Farm, a nod to the indigenous people of the Andes Mountains and his 19 residents whose roots are also there. [Bill] knew he wanted to share his sanctuary with others.“When COVID hit, I decided to go to private visits by appointment. It’s worked out very well,” says Bernhart, noting that he’s now welcomed 1,600 guests in two and a half years, sharing his knowledge for this animal." Visit the farm, enjoy the animals and find a boutique called a ‘Pacatique,’ on the property selling products made of alpaca fiber. It's a great place to visit with the family, relax and get a jump on holiday shopping. Hope to see you there soon!
