Essex Library Launches Fulford History Lecture Series
Dannel P. Malloy, two-term Governor of Connecticut and current Chancellor of the University of Maine System, to speak at Essex Library.

Essex Library is proud to host Dannel P. Malloy, former two-term Governor of Connecticut and current Chancellor of the University of Maine System, as the inaugural speaker in the Fulford History Lecture series on June 8 at 4 p.m. Malloy’s talk, entitled "Leadership, Legacy, and Lessons from Connecticut's Capitol" is a reflection on pivotal moments in recent Connecticut history, drawn from his years as Governor and Mayor of Stamford. Malloy will offer an insider’s perspective on leading through crises, reforming public education and criminal justice, and navigating the economic challenges of the Great Recession. His remarks will highlight how history is shaped not only by policy decisions, but by the values and resolve of those who serve — a fitting tribute to Barry Fulford, whose enduring legacy continues through this history lecture series.
The Fulford History Lecture honors Barry Fulford, a beloved Essex Library patron and Trustee who
passed away in 2020, leaving an extraordinarily generous bequest to the Library of $200,000. Born and raised in North London, Fulford came to the U.S. in 1960 to become the President of Cadbury’s
subsidiary here. He was well-known in the Essex Library for his dry wit and passion for reading about history.
Admission to the lecture on June 8 is free and open to the public. Registration is suggested as space is
limited. For more information, and to register, see https://www.youressexlibrary.o... or call
860-767-1560. Essex Library is located at 33 West Avenue in Essex.
