- Former first selectman of the town of Essex, Carl Ellison is celebrating his 90th trip around the sun. To commemorate the special occasion, the Essex Veterans Memorial Hall will host a celebration on Saturday, April 8 at 3 p.m. and everyone is invited to the event, which has a cash bar. A mainstay of the town, Ellison served as the first selectman for two terms in the 70s, as well as a minority selectman for one term. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Finance for 20 years and also served on Essex's Retirement Board for two decades. He has been a resident of Essex for the past five decades.
