- With Thanksgiving right around the corner, area residents should be marking their calendars for the Trees In The Riggin event, which will be held on November 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. According to a Town of Essex Facebook post, "The holiday season kicks off in Essex with the annual TREES IN THE RIGGING Community Carol Sing and Parade. The Connecticut River Museum, the Essex Board of Trade and Essex Historical Society combine to present this annual event that includes a traditional lantern-lit carol stroll down Main Street with the Sailing Masters of 1812 Fife and Drum Corps and a parade of antique cars. Make a “Boat Float” for Trees in the Rigging Street Parade! The street parade side of Essex’s annual “Trees in the Rigging” welcomes back “Boat Floats” or small watercraft on trailers that are decorated for the holidays and can be towed down Essex’s streets. Members of the public are invited to decorate their own boat to be pulled or walked down the parade route. Rowboats, kayaks and canoes will all work, too! Please contact Essex Historical Society to register your Boat Float and receive important driving and parking info: 860-767-0681 or mjosefiak@essexhistory.org The stroll steps off at 4:30 pm at the Essex Town Hall on West Avenue and ends at the Connecticut River Museum with more holiday festivities and an appearance from Santa! The event is free." (Town of Essex via Facebook)

- According to Zip06.com, "The Essex Elementary School Foundation (EESF), supported by the residents and community of Essex, approved over $50,000 for enrichment programs offered at Essex Elementary School (EES) that would otherwise not be available through traditional funding by the school system and budget. For the 2022-'23 school year, the approved programs and grants include the return of the beloved World Culture Program (Grade 2), focusing on the three cultures of Haiti, China, and India. Students will gain a deeper understanding of each country’s customs through a study of art, food, and history. Once again, EES will collaborate with the Essex Historical Society to provide a comprehensive Historian in Residence program to help students learn about the rich history of Essex, Centerbrook, and Ivoryton. For a third year, grades K-6 will be inspired to solve grade-level specific math problems in designated locations around town through the Summer Math Passport Program. These math equations are designed to spark an interest and curiosity in children as they explore their world through the lens of mathematics. The Connecticut River Museum will again work with the Essex Elementary School grades 4-6-to provide experiences to increase students’ knowledge of their town and connection to the Connecticut River Other continued grants and programs include Bloom Art instruction, Lego Engineering, and 3D Printing Makerspace afterschool programs."(Zip06.com)
