Here are the top stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:

  1. Spring is officially here, which means it's time for the sixth annual Connecticut Spring Boat Show, which will take place April 29-30 and May 1 at Safe Harbor Essex Island. A wide range of new and brokerage, power and sail boats will be on display ranging from 20 feet to larger than 65 feet. Visitors will also be treated to a variety of vendors, yacht brokers, gear, artists, accessories and service companies exhibiting on the lawn. The hope is that the event will raise $30,000 for Sails Up 4 Cancer, a nonprofit organization that will benefit from 50 percent of ticket sales for the event. (Torrington Register Citizen)
  2. Looking for a fun, family outing this weekend? An Earth Day Celebration will be held at the Bushy Hill Rec Center on Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m! The earth friendly event is being hosted by Sustainable Essex, Chester Deep River and Bushy Hill Nature Center. There will be several activities to take part in and visitors will be able to hike the many trail and connect with nature. (essexct.gov)
  3. The clock is ticking as the legislative session heads toward its final week. Reportedly, solar legislation has once again been among the most contentious topics, as well as a lengthy transportation and climate bill designed to make up for a loss on that subject last year, and to ensure federal funds do not go to waste, and the measure to put into statute by Gov. Ned Lamont’s executive order to have a carbon-free electric grid by 2040 are all waiting. It will be interesting to see how it all concludes. (Connecticut Public)
