Here are the top stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. James Chapman of Deep River, who according to an Eyewitness News 3 article, "shoved an 11-year-old boy off his bike, was back in court on new charges. Chapman had been released on the first incident, when he allegedly pushed the child off his bike. But two weeks after that, he’s now being accused of threatening to shove an elderly man’s head into the ground. Chapman turned himself in on Wednesday. He was charged with threatening and breach of peace. Chapman’s bail was set at $2,500 on the latest charges. Officials said Chapman paid 10-percent and was released. He is now headed to the treatment facility. (Eyewitness News 3)
  2. Globe Pequot, reportedly the largest publisher of regional interest books in the country has moved from Guilford and returned to its roots in the town of Essex. According to an article in the CTinsider, the Connecticut-based independent book publisher was based in Essex between 1967 and 1970. Robert Wilkerson bought the company in 1970, known as Pequot Press at the time, and moved it to Chester. It was founded in 1947 by Williams Haynes, who owned Stonington Printing Co. The company originally published Connecticut town histories and genealogies under the name Pequot Press. The Essex office officially opened on June 27. The new headquarters, two office buildings with 7,000 square feet between them, had previously been leased to Morgan Stanley for a decade." (CT Insider)

The Lower Connecticut River Valley, RiverCOG is comprised of 17 towns including; Chester, Clinton, Cromwell, Deep River, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Lyme, Middlefield, Middletown, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland and Westbrook. According to a Hartford Courant article the RiverCog is currently working on, "a new regional plan for diversifying the housing stock in the lower Connecticut River Valley. The plan includes establishing a housing commission, studying the feasibility of transit-oriented development, and the creation of an online resource with more information about affordable housing.
