Here are the top stories in Essex-Chester-Deep River today:

  1. An unnerving event occurred over the weekend at the Essex Library. According to an article written by Patch staffer, Chris Rhatigan," An anonymous person removed about 20 books from an Essex Library display celebrating Pride month. The display's materials were found and restored. "We are disappointed and troubled by the unauthorized disassembly of the displays and removal of the materials and are actively investigating the matter," Essex Library posted on Facebook." (Patch)
  2. Because of their can-do attitude, the Valley Regional High School Baseball is celebrating a major win. The team took home the Shoreline Conference title in a win against North Branford, in a game that ended 7-4. According to Zip06.com, '“Going into it, we were extremely confident, because we knew the strength of the team and what we were seeing from them on the mound,” said senior captain Braeden Sparaco, who was named the Shoreline Conference Pitcher of the Year. Seniors Sam Hutchinson, Brayden Shea (both in the outfield), senior captain Colin Carver (as an infielder), and pitcher Sparaco earned spots on the All-Shoreline Team, plus senior captain Lucas Rogers was an Honorable Mention for the squad." Congratulations athletes! (Zip06.com)
  3. For safety reasons a moose at Bradley International Airport was euthanized over the weekend, WTNH News-8 reported. State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) officials explained that the moose had breached an outer perimeter fence Friday. According to a Patch article written by staff member Chris Rhatigan, "Due to concerns regarding the safety of the airport and vehicles on Route 20, EnCon Police and Wildlife Division chose to euthanize the moose. No flights were affected. The DEEP estimates that about 100-150 moose live in the state." (Patch)
