- The Materials Innovation and Recycling Authority (MIRA) is set to cease burning garbage in Hartford and divert all waste out of the city by July of this year. “The plan is to move the few remaining tons of MSW [municipal solid waste] being delivered to the South Meadows facility to the transfer stations in Torrington and Essex so that we won’t need to transfer out of South Meadows,” said MIRA President Tom Kirk reportedly. An estimated 70,000 tons of garbage will be diverted to transfer stations in Torrington and Essex. (Connecticut Public)
- The Region 4 Budget referendum will be held on May 3 from 12 to 8 p.m. The budget is reportedly down 1.15 percent, which accounts for a decrease in spending from the current year of $252,883. The Region 4 budget is used for the operation of John Winthrop Middle School and Valley Regional High School. (Zip06.com)
