Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:
- It's that time of year! Leaf time and the Town of Essex has a message about leaf removal. When removing leaves from your property please remember: do not blow leaves into the street, do not blow leaves into the drainage area or swales and do not leave leaf piles on the edge of the road where they can easily blow into the street. Leaves can be taken to the compost area of the Transfer Station for no charge. (Town of Essex via Facebook)
- Do you want to add a furry friend to your family and do something good for the Essex-Chester-Deep River community at the same time? Then you should consider adopting a pet from a local shelter. Many animal shelters are still working to fulfill adoptions. Over 6 million companion animals are given to rescue organizations each year nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Shelters often look after other animals in search of a permanent home as well, including pigs, birds and even horses. However, only around half of all these animals are adopted each year, according to ASPCA data. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Essex-Chester-Deep River area — are still waiting for their forever homes. With help from our friends at Petfinder, Patch has compiled this week’s list of animals available for adoption near you. Whether you’re looking for cuddles or companionship, one of these animals could be the perfect fit for your family.(Patch)
- State Representative Christine Palm (D-36) is running under three party lines: Democrat, Independent and Working Families Party. In a recent Facebook post on her page she said, "I am proud to be the endorsed candidate for the Democratic Party, Independent Party, and Working Families Party. Election day is Nov. 8!" Be sure to get out and exercise your right to vote! (State Representative Christine Palm via Facebook)
