Smith & Wesson Deep River Facility To Close; Mass Layoffs Expected
A Smith & Wesson facility will close by the end of next year, and all workers will lose their jobs.

DEEP RIVER, CT — A total of 117 employees will lose their jobs as a Smith & Wesson facility in Deep River will shut down, according to a document filed with the state Department of Labor. The layoffs will be in rounds beginning Aug. 4.
Most employees continue until the facility closes Dec. 31, 2024, when 71 workers will be laid off.
"All employees have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent," the document reads. "There will not be any bumping rights for the affected employees, that is, employees will not be able to displace more junior employees out of their job positions as a result of this closure."
