Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. On the weekend of April 29 through May 1 downtown Chester will be transformed into a Squirrel Day extravaganza. Events will include the famed annual rubber duck race down the Pattaconk Creek, the float parade, live music, shopping specials and “Puppy Picasso”,which is an opportunity to see if your dog is an artist by creating a unique piece of art on canvas using just their puppy paws. In addition, there will be various special events for children throughout the weekend and Main Street will be closed on Saturday, April 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. (Zip06.com)

Essex Fire Engine Company #1 and Deep River Volunteer Fire Department were among the Fire Departments throughout the state that were awarded money through the Connecticut Water Firefighter Support Grant program. The program, which began in 2020, provides funds for equipment or training for fire departments within Connecticut Water’s service communities. (Register Citizen)
