  1. Valley Regional High School Girl's Soccer player, Madelyn Riebold is a freshman who played mid-field this season and made quite a name for herself supporting her teammates. According to a recent zip06.com article, "in her short time, Maddie has already emerged as a driving force for Coach Lloyd Warren’s team, dictating pace and keeping the team focused and competitive. Coach Warren sees her as an impressive all-around player and an important factor in controlling possession for the Warriors. “She’s the team’s engine. She plays in the center of the park, she’s got great tenacity, she’s got good ball skills, and I can trust her to be a driving force for the team and give us that push when we need it. … If we can win the mid-field, we can win a lot of games. And I think she’s going to give us the opportunity to do that,” [said Warren.] “I think my favorite part about playing mid-field is I love who I play with,” Maddie [said]. “I feel like I have the most action out on the field. I like playing it out wide and receiving it back and playing it forward. I like tackling, I like everything about it. It’s always been really fun to me.” Good luck Maddie in future seasons! 2. State Representative Christine Palm (D-36) wrote an open letter in the CT Examiner to the residents of Chester, Deep River, Essex and Haddam after her win. The letter read in part, "In my gratitude over being re-elected, I want to make a few observations. To everyone who came out to vote — you are democracy in action. To those who sat it out — please do not wait until something — or someone — you love is gone before you realize the importance of making your voice heard. If you aren’t registered to vote, please do so — we have municipal elections in 2023 and the presidential election in 2024. To the registrars and clerks of both parties who checked, and double-checked every vote — thank you for your integrity, and for upholding our electoral system. I know you worked long, grueling hours, and you deserve our profound appreciation. To the campaign volunteers and staff — ranging in age from 16 to 80 — you are the embodiment of democracy, hard work, grit and hope. I cannot thank you enough. Whether you began door-knocking back in June or jumped in to help during “Get Out the Vote” weekend — every move you made helped validate our electoral system’s fairness and legality. To those who voted for me — thank you for casting a hopeful vote for something, instead of a fearful vote against something. Your belief in science, reason, free speech, communal responsibility, environmental protection, human dignity, and the U.S. Constitution is all that will heal our nation." Congratulations Christine on your re-election! (CT Examiner)
  3. According to the New Haven Independent, a Thursday groundbreaking marked the beginning of construction of a bustling mini-city on the burial grounds of the old New Haven Coliseum. The occasion was the launch of a $200 million three-part first phase construction on “Square 10.” That’s the name for a long-awaited constellation of apartments, storefronts, offices, public open space, and biomedical space where the Coliseum rock and hockey arena and convention center was blown up on Jan. 20, 2007 on the 3.5‑acre block bordered by Orange Street, George Street, State Street, and MLK Boulevard. Developer Spinnaker Real Estate Partners has managed to secure financing for the $76 million “Phase 1A” before a souring economy may make starting construction projects more challenging. Spinnaker CEO Clay Fowler said he projects completing that first mini-phase within 18 months. (Click here to read more about the details.)" (New Haven Independent)
