Here are the top three stories today in Essex-Chester-Deep River:

  1. Art lovers save the dates! Changing Seasons Fall Show at Spectrum Gallery will have an Opening Reception on Friday, September 23 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. with an open house Saturday, September 24 from 1-5 p.m. and Sunday, September 25 from 1-5 p.m. at 61 Main St. Centerbrook. Hope to see you there!(Spectrum Art Gallery)
  2. Getting ready to leaf peep in the Nutmeg State? The 2022 Fall Foliage Prediction Map, was released recently. According to an article by Patch staff member Rich Kirby, "The backbone of the map is meteorology — temperature, moisture, sunlight and precipitation — but it incorporates historical and forecast data, including National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration precipitation forecasts, elevation, actual temperatures, temperature forecasts and average daylight exposure to develop each county’s fall baseline date. Fall won’t officially start until Sept. 22 with the autumnal equinox and leaves won’t change substantially in color in Connecticut — or most places — until later in the season." (Patch)
  3. It's peak migration time for many birds leaving Connecticut for warmer climates. From now through October 6, Nature Watchers of Connecticut is asking that people make a concerted effort to turn their lights off at night so as not to interfere with bird migration. Two-thirds of all songbirds migrate at night. Light pollution can confuse them. (Nature Watchers of Connecticut via Facebook)
