2024 Fairfield Summer Reading Challenge Starts Friday
The program's goal is 1,000 minutes of reading for all ages; 1,500 minutes is a bonus level that will bring additional prizes.
Information from the Fairfield Library:
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Public Library is set to begin another fabulous summer of engaging readers with this year’s themed challenge, “What Does the Fox Read?” Our recently chosen fox mascot will be encouraging patrons of all ages to attend Library events, complete online activities, and of course—read, read, read!—from June 14 until August 10, 2024, with prizes awarded at different levels of completion. (Participants will also have a chance to name the fox in a special contest during the summer!) The program’s goal is 1,000 minutes of reading for all ages; 1,500 minutes is a bonus level that will bring additional prizes.
The Summer Challenge kicks off on Friday, June 14 (the first day reading minutes can be logged).
Children will be welcomed at a kick-off party at the Fairfield Museum & History Center (370 Beach Road, Fairfield) from 10am-Noon, with games, activities, cotton candy, tattoos, and a special dance party for ages 0-5 at 10:30am! Teens (grades 6-12) can attend an after-hours kick-off at Main Library from 6:00-8:00pm in the Rotary Room (please register); there will be a Percy-Jackson-themed quest through the bookstacks and cupcake decorating, among other activities!

Adults, teens, and children can all register by downloading the free Beanstack app on their smartphones, or return to their previous Summer Challenge account by clicking on the banner on the FPL website (QR codes are also set up at each Library Service Desk for easy access). Use Beanstack to log reading minutes, write book reviews, and enter activities completed. The app will let you know when it’s time to collect a prize!
Prizes for adults include coasters and a fox ‘stress reliever,’ while children and teens will receive ‘brag tags,’ new books, journals, lawn signs, and irresistible fox plushies! Digital raffle tickets earned through Beanstack will give readers a chance to win grand prizes liked themed craft and puzzle parties for you and your friends, gift bags and toy bundles. More important than the prizes, though, children and teens will avoid the “summer slide” by continuing to hone their reading skills and explore new genres of books before the next school year.
