Gabriele Davis will debut her latest picture book, Peaches, with a Storytime & Craft event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat., August 24, at the Fairfield University Store, 1499 Post Road, downtown Fairfield, CT. Patrons can listen to Davis read her amazing story, perform some crafts, and receive a peach surprise to take home.
Peaches tells the story of a young girl determined to take part in her family’s peach cobbler tradition—just like Mama used to. Kirkus calls it, "A celebration of family, food, and finding ways to heal." Side by side with Daddy and Grandma, a young girl is determined to take part in her family’s tradition of baking the perfect peach cobbler—just like her mama used to. From picking fruit to stirring and mixing to kneading the dough, it’s a little bit messy. But with sure hands to guide the girl step-by-step—and her mother’s memory hanging sweet in the air—she has the recipe for making Mama proud. This warmhearted and ultimately hopeful picture book shows that with a house full of love, everything can feel peach-perfect.
Davis welcomes the sounds, songs, and rhythms that flow through her days in the northwest corner of Connecticut, where she writes, bikes, and reflects on the childhood memories that fire her imagination. The memory of her dad singing spirituals to Gabriele and her brothers at bedtime gave rise to her picture book Our Joyful Noise. Davis enjoys creating works that delight, inspire, empower, and reflect all children.
