FAIRFIELD, CT — A planned 45-unit housing on Reef Road and Forest Avenue in Fairfield gained Town Plan and Zoning Commission approval this month, despite some opposition due to potential flooding concerns.
The vote to approve the complex was 5-2, reported the Fairfield Citizen, with CommissionersKathryn Braun and Alexis Harrison voting against it, while commission Chair Thomas Noonan and Commissioners Tom Corsillo, Steven Levy, Jeff Randolph and Joseph Siebert voting to approve it.
A petition had been launched in opposition to the development, and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection had also voiced concerns about the plan.

Fourteen of the 45 units at 812 to 820 Reef Road and 155 Forest Ave. would fall under the state's 8-30g affordable housing regulations, and a structure currently at the site would be demolished to make room for the new complex.
The commission placed restrictions on the complex, limiting the number of people who can live there, and also requiring that tenants receive a flood evacuation plan when they move in.
