FAIRFIELD, CT — Mysterious drones were spotted in the skies above the Fairfield train station on Thursday, according to footage shot by Lucy Biggers, the latest in the string of drone sightings that have coalesced over New Jersey in recent days.

At least five drones were spotted above the Fairfield train station downtown, which Biggers described as resembling planes. The objects were flying too low to be planes, however.

"They were flying low like a drone but no humming sound!" Biggers wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "My husband has a DJI drone so I know what they sound like. They hovered in one location and also made turns!"

Fairfield police also issued a statement about the drones.

"The Fairfield Police Department is aware of reports and social media posts about drone sightings in Fairfield and throughout the area, as well as the general reporting of similar sightings across the tri-state region," Sgt. Michael Stahl wrote in a statement. "Our department is monitoring the situation and is in communication with state and federal law enforcement partners."

In the skies above parts of New Jersey, as many as 180 sighting have been reported nightly in recent days, according to Patch, with mayors and other officials in the Garden State voicing frustration over the situation.

Drones were spotted throughout the greater Philadelphia area on Thursday night, perhaps the most widespread night yet of the unexplained sightings of aerial objects in that state.

One of Connecticut's senators says the federal government should take aggressive action against the drones.

"We should be doing some very urgent intelligence analysis and take them out of the skies, especially if they’re flying over airports or military bases," said U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Thursday, as reported by the Associated Press and WTNH-TV.

State Sen. Tony Hwang, whose district includes Fairfield, calls the incident over Fairfield "unsettling."

"I agree with U.S. Sen. Blumenthal, who advocates for shooting drones down, if necessary, to get answers and accountability," Hwang said in a statement. "We must be proactive, not reactive. That requires full transparency, accountability, and honest public conversations to arrive at a resolution and a plan to deal with this immediately. To ensure public safety and confidence, we need a threat assessment as soon as possible.

"We as lawmakers will continue to be in close contact with law enforcement officials to help get essential information to the public."

In New Jersey, Morris County officials said they will utilize enhanced drone surveillance to determine what's going on with drones.

Some of the drones spotted above New Jersey are six feet in diameter, but are not detectable by infrared cameras or on radio frequencies, according to New Jersey Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia.

Back in Connecticut, mysterious drones have also been spotted in other parts of the state, such as Enfield, CT Insider reported.
