FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield officials are encouraging residents and visitors to support local retailers during Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29, the weekend after Thanksgiving.

The town’s Office of Community and Economic Development will host a welcome station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Holiday Market at Greenfield Hill Commons, 75 Hillside Road. Shoppers can pick up a free "Shop Small" canvas bag provided by American Express, along with other giveaways while supplies last.

Small Business Saturday, launched in 2010, is intended to highlight and promote independent businesses.

"The Town is pleased to serve as a neighborhood champion for this event," said Mark Barnhart, Fairfield's Director of Community and Economic Development, in a statement. "'Small Business Saturday' is a terrific opportunity to kick off the holiday season by remembering the small businesses that help make Fairfield special, and we would encourage all to 'Shop Small' throughout the year, but especially during this festive time of year."

Updates and additional information are available on the town’s social media pages at @ExperienceFairfield and at www.experiencefairfieldct.org.
