Fairfield High School AP Students Announce Informative, Interactive Projects

The projects are geared toward area fourth and fifth-grade students.

The Fairfield Ludlowe High School Advanced Placement Course called “Comparative Government and Politics” student body announces they have created informative and interactive projects targeted to an authentic audience: The Town of Fairfield’s Gifted 4’th and 5’th Grade Elementary School Students.

These Elementary School students have been actively engaged in a unit of study called “Freedom.” A total of nearly one hundred 4’th and 5’th grade students from Fairfield’s eleven Elementary Schools have been identified as students in need of gifted services. “These younger students will have a unique opportunity to interact and discuss topics of interest with the older students during a meeting of likeminded learners in an effort to support cross generational relationships,” said Sheila Ferrara, Gifted Program Teacher.

FLHS Social Studies teacher Colleen Sousa and Gregg Pugliese, Fairfield Schools Secondary Curriculum Leader for Social Studies were instrumental in creating this new curriculum.

In 2016 Fairfield’s Pre-K through 12’th grade Social Studies curriculum was unanimously approved by the Board of Education. Fairfield was the first in the state to pass a new Social Studies curriculum based on brand new Connecticut Social Studies Frameworks. These frameworks align with Common Core guidelines which are tailored to enhance and celebrate local history, economics, civics and geography.
