Fairfield Man Accused Of Sexual Assault: Police

The arrest followed a month-long investigation, according to authorities.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A 43-year-old Fairfield man was arrested Thursday by Fairfield police on a warrant charging him with first-degree sexual assault, according to authorities.

Daniel C. Suozzi turned himself in at police headquarters, and was released after posting bond on bail of $50,000.

"The arrest was made on an active arrest warrant following a month-long investigation by Fairfield Police Detectives into the reported sexual assault of a woman known to Suozzi," Sgt. Jenna Wellington wrote in a statement.

Additional details were not disclosed.

Attorney Mark Sherman, who is representing Suozzi, told Patch that his client is innocent.

"This is an accusation based on an extremely brief encounter between two consenting adults," Sherman said. "While it is premature to provide any more specifics on the case, he is absolutely innocent of this charge, and we expect him to be fully vindicated during the court process."

Suozzi is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday.
