Fairfield Museum Announces Winners of IMAGES 2016

A celebration will be held Saturday, May 14 at the museum's Gin & Jazz spring benefit.

The Fairfield Museum and History Center is proud to announce the winners of IMAGES 2016, the eighth, annual Juried Photography Show. Winners were chosen in the categories of Landscape, Portrait, Architecture, Nature and Abstract. The exhibition of the winning photographs will open Sunday, May 15, along with an exhibition of work by Jack Delano, a photographer who captured views of life in Connecticut during the 1940s. The winning photographs will be on display through Monday, June 27, and the work of Jack Delano will be on exhibit through Sunday, Sept. 18.

The IMAGES exhibition is a highly regarded exhibition that celebrates the exceptional work of talented, regional photographers. It is sponsored by Venu Magazine, Southport Galleries and Fairfield University. The 2016 winners were chosen from more than 500 entries submitted from Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Two grand-prize winners will be selected and announced on Saturday, May 14 at the museum’s Gin & Jazz spring benefit. The public is invited to attend the festivities featuring cocktails, live music and food by Susan Kane Catering. Litchfield Distillery will graciously provide the beverages and Saugatuck Sweets is generously preparing the desserts. Guests will be able to preview both exhibitions, IMAGES 2016 and Connecticut, 1940: Farms, Factories, and the Photographs of Jack Delano.

Tickets for the opening celebration are available online, and proceeds from the evening will benefit the museum’s educational programs.

Judges for the 2016 contest were renowned photographer Philip Trager, Pablo Delano, professor of fine arts at Trinity College in Hartford, and Suzanne Chamlin, associate professor and director of studio art at Fairfield University.
