"The answer to run for state representative was an easy one -- I love my hometown and our State. I am passionate about what Connecticut can be and the promise that we have as a community when we work together,” said Harrison. "Fairfield has a decades long proactive record of tackling complex issues such as affordable housing and environmental protection. These and other issues are creating new challenges, and leadership requires carefully weighing often conflicting goals so that one does not subsume the other. Fairfield has also struggled with the persistent high cost of living, and infringements on local control in zoning, public safety and education. We need a leader to help steer us in a positive direction and reach collaborative solutions."
Harrison believes in examining the real-world impacts of legislation that could affect many aspects of everyday life – from land-use to small businesses to public health and safety, and more.
“The passion and energy that Alexis brings to her work for our community is incredible and we need that in our representation in Hartford. Whether it's fighting back against state mandates and controls over our town or fighting for our neighborhoods and environmental stewardship of our land and water, Alexis is a proven champion who will truly represent the voices of our community. She has consistently shown her ability to work with all stakeholders and deliver results,” said Laura Devlin, former State Representative and Chair, Fairfield Republican Town Committee.
During COVID-19, Harrison and two other Fairfield residents organized over 30 community food drives for local food pantries including Operation Hope, nOURish Bridgeport and Bridgeport Rescue Mission. In 2023, Harrison served as an adult leader for Greenfield Hill Congregational Church’s annual service trip to Appalachia through the Appalachia Service Project and will be going again next month.
Wanting the public to become more abreast of land-use topics, as a TPZ commissioner in 2023, Harrison launched a bi-monthly land-use newsletter to educate residents on zoning issues, pending applications and ways for the public to engage in the process.
