Bridgeport Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery

The man told the victim that he had a gun, but did not want to hurt her, according to Fairfield Police Sergeant Suzanne Lussier.

 

A Bridgeport man was arrested on Wednesday after he attempted to rob a woman near Metro-North's Fairfield train station, according to Sgt. Sue Lussier.

While walking towards the station on Unquowa Place just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, the female victim walked passed a parked car occupied by a man and a woman, and was soon approached by the driver.

The man walked up to the victim with an unidentified object in his right hand, telling her he had a firearm, but that he had no intention of harming her. Before he had the chance to do anything the victim ran as fast as she could to the train station where she called police, Lussier said.

Officers located a vehicle matching the victim's description behind , located at 50 Unquowa Place, where police detained the female occupant. She explained to police that the man involved was her boyfriend, 23-year-old Jeremy Mitchell, Lussier said.

According to police, Mitchell had left on foot heading east on the Post Road. Officers located him in front of . Mitchell was taken into custody after being positively identified by the victim.

Mitchell has an extensive criminal history, including two warrants out of Stratford, including one for robbery, according to Lussier.

Police charged Mitchell, of 37 Quinlan Avenue, with criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery, threatening and second-degree breach of peace. He was held on $50,000 bond for arraignment Thursday morning. He is due in court again on June 25.
