Fairfield Residents Sound Off on Safety Issues

We asked Patch Readers to share their biggest safety concerns in Fairfield. Here's what they'd change.

Fairfield, CT- Summer’s nearly here and with each walk in the park, day at the pool and backyard BBQ comes the risk of snakebites, drowning and fires, but don’t worry! There’s no reason to stay cooped up inside all season.

Patch put together a list of summer safety tips to keep you safe and having fun while the weather’s warm. Make sure to give snakes their distance and always swim with a buddy to stay carefree during the dog days.

Keeping these tips in mind, there are other possible dangers that affect Fairfield residents year round.

We asked Patch Readers what they thought the biggest safety issues were in their town. Here’s a list of the most pressing problems, from break-ins to traffic jams:

  • "Cars that speed on roads that have 25mph speed limits. of ten witness cars going 50 to 60 mph"
  • "Drivers on cell phones "
  • "Lack of sidewalks on heavily traveled streets"
  • "Intersection of Tahmore and Black Rock! Cars run the red lights all the time - it's like playing Frogger some days!"
  • "Opiate addiction"
  • "Distracted driving and lack of cycling/pedestrian safe routes."
  • "The distracted driving, yes, but with lap dogs mainly. I love animals but use a carrier. I see this daily especially around schools funnier when big guy with lil tea cup high breed."
  • "Lack of lights for pedestrians that work. Most require pushing a button that doesn't work."
