Fairfield Restaurant Catches Fire and Could Have Been Much Worse, Police Said

Police said the incident occurred Tuesday night at around 9:30 p.m.

Fairfield firefighters received an emergency call that reported a building fire at the S&S Dugout at 3449 Post Rd. at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to NBC CT.

When emergency responders arrived, heavy smoke had filled the first floor of the building, which was the restaurant, as the second floor is an apartment.

Fairfield police said that a resident and restaurant employee had sprayed an extinguisher to the flames, which perhaps prevented the fire from developing further, NBC CT reported. The building was evacuated upon first-responder arrival.

No injuries were reported, and the fire didn’t spread past the first floor because the smoke damage had been contained to the ground floor, according to NBC CT. The cause of the fire is unknown, but preliminary findings indicate the fire might have started from the commercial dishwasher in the kitchen.
