2 Fairfield Little League Teams Win State Titles, Honored By Town
Two Fairfield Little League teams — one baseball and one softball — won the state title this year.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Friendship was at the heart of the success of this year’s Little League championship teams.
On Thursday afternoon at Sherman Green, town and state officials held a ceremony honoring both the boys’ American Little League 11-D state champions, and the Fairfield Little League Girls Junior Softball state champions.
“You guys are rock stars,” First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick said. “I just want you to know that on behalf of the town of Fairfield, we’re so incredibly proud of you guys.”

Unfortunately, no one from the girls’ team, which took top state honor for the second time in three years, was in attendance, with individuals away at camps and on vacations for August.
Several player representatives, however, including members of both the girls’ 11-U and 12-U team — which won the district — were there to bring support.

“We’re here to support them,” noted Terry Carroll, 12-U manager, applauding the junior team for their perseverance, determination and "grit."
Likewise, Andrew Gedacht, league president, pointed out that it was a tough time of summer in terms of various commitments, so the scheduling didn't work out.
“The girls earned their success,” he said, however, applauding their efforts.
Meanwhile, among the team of boys, who have played together for several years, an attitude of camaraderie and friendship has had a key role in getting them to the top spot in the state.
“I love everybody on this team,” said Dylan Lawlor, shortstop.
He said that while there was apprehension initially about the extent of their success, after they managed to get past the “sectional” division, he had a good feeling they could go all the way.
“We just keep having more and more fun playing with this team,” he said, acknowledging the brotherhood.
“We all have very good friendships, and we have a lot of chemistry,” echoed Max Mulhall, the team’s starting catcher.
Like others, he spoke to the value of positive feelings among the players and how that impacts play.
“If you’re playing well and everybody’s feeling good, it’ll build confidence in your team,” he said, noting how exciting the journey has been.
Player William Ryan concurred, again highlighting the chemistry felt by the teammates.
“If people don’t like each other, they’re not gonna work together very well,” he said.
