Fire Reported At Hospital In Fairfield, Fire Marshal's Office Investigating
When fire crews responded they found heavy smoke and active fire in the laundry room, officials said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fire crews responded to The Carolton at 400 Mill Plain Road just before 7 p.m. Thursday for an activated smoke detector.
As fire crews responded, a second 911 call was received reporting visible smoke in the building, specifically in the laundry room area, fire officials said.
With this updated information, Assistant Chief Cronin (Car 3) upgraded the response to a full structure fire assignment, bringing three additional engines, a ladder truck, and an ambulance to the scene, officials said.

"Engine 1, led by Lieutenant Chris Eidam, arrived first and found heavy smoke and active fire in the laundry room," fire officials wrote. "A working fire was declared. Firefighters discovered the fire was contained within a large commercial dryer and partially controlled by an activated sprinkler head. Engine 1 deployed a hose line to fully extinguish the blaze while additional crews ventilated the building and thoroughly checked for further hazards."
The scene was turned over to the Fairfield Fire Marshal's Office for investigation.

"Thanks to the Fairfield Fire Department's swift response and functioning sprinkler system, damage was limited to the dryer unit. There were no reported injuries to residents or staff. Fire crews remained on site for approximately one hour to investigate and ensure the restoration of the building's fire protection systems," fire officials wrote.
The Carolton is a 229 bed convalescent hospital.
