Holiday Caroling Party At Southport's Pequot Library In December

FAIRFIELD, CT — Pequot Library will hold a number of December programs that are free and open to the public and will appeal to attendees both young and old. Of particular note, the library’s Holiday Caroling Party on Dec. 6 at 5:00 p.m. draws an eager crowd of several hundred attendees. Please read on for more details.

Join the library on Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m. for Drinks with Dickens | A Victorian England Cocktail Class. Renowned writer, historian, and bartender Al Culliton takes participants through the process of making authentic eggnog, punches, and more. The cost of this program is $50 per person for non-members and $40 for members of the library.

Come out on Dec. 6 at 5:00 p.m. for Pequot Library’s signature winter event, the Holiday Caroling Party, full of festive holiday cheer: crafts, choirs, treats, horse-drawn carriage rides, surprise visitors from the North Pole, and a holiday market featuring local vendors. All ages are welcome.

author. Afterward, explore Lewdness & Murder: The Eternal Fascination with True Crime, a
pop-up exhibition in the May Room, which features Pequot Library’s original first-edition copy
of Capote’s famous work. This program takes place on Dec. 12 at 2:00 p.m.

On Dec. 14 at 10:00 a.m., enjoy a docent-led tour of the library, and architectural gem listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recipient of the 2018 Connecticut Treasures Award. Learn about the history of the library, founded in 1889, while exploring the building’s iconic Tiffany & Company stained glass windows, original steel stacks, glass floor, reading room, and original fireplaces. The following day, Dec. 15 at 3:00 p.m., you’re invited to Pequot Library and Shakespeare on the Sound Present: A Christmas Carol. Join Pequot Library and Shakespeare on the Sound for drinks and merriment at a joint fundraiser, culminating in a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

On Dec, 19 at 6:30 p.m., the library hosts Bedtime Stories for fathers and their children ages three and up. Children wear pajamas and everyone listens to stories read aloud in preparation for bedtime. Bring your favorite stuffed animal. Registration is required.

Celebrate the winter solstice on Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. by exploring the night sky with Mike Francis and his inflatable Starlab planetarium in Pequot Library’s auditorium. Children and families will identify individual stars and constellations in a remarkably realistic night sky projected onto the ceiling of the planetarium dome. Registration is required.

Pequot Library also has partnered with the Library Speakers Consortium to present a number of virtual, can’t-miss talks with leading authors and thinkers. Tune in on Dec. 4 at 2:00 p.m. for Unearthed: Exploring the Smithsonian National Gem Collection with Dr. Jeffrey Post | A Virtual Talk. The emeritus curator of the Smithsonian’s National Gem Collection, Dr. Jeffrey E. Post talks about his book, The Smithsonian National Gem Collection Unearthed: Surprising Stories Behind the Jewels.

On Dec. 11 at 2:00 p.m., log on for On Pulse-Pounding, Family Driven Mysteries: A Virtual Conversation with Laura Dave. This promises to be a captivating virtual conversation with the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Last Thing He Told Me.

Check the library’s website for ongoing children’s classes such as Music and Movement for Wigglers and Chess Club as well as adult affinity groups like the Knitingales.
