Fairfield Truck Fire Ruled a Suicide Attempt

Investigators have ruled the fatal Tunxis Hill Park truck fire of Sept. 6, 2012, an apparent suicide attempt, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said Tuesday.

The fire was not caused by a vehicle malfunction, according to investigators.

Police believe the can of gasoline found in the back of 23-year-old Justin Hervey's Chevy Tahoe was used to disperse gasoline in the front passenger compartment of the truck.

The gas was ignited, creating an explosion and the ensuing fire, Lussier said.  

Hervey, a part-time Fairfield University student and Armonk, N.Y. native, died of his injuries on Feb. 27 in the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Unit.
