'Just Bring A Chair': Free Jazz Fridays Back At Fairfield Museum
The free program brings Fairfield residents a chance for relaxation, community and smooth jazz.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Despite weather that some would call too darn hot, the smooth sounds of some exceptional jazz musicians set a very cool tone Friday evening at the Fairfield Museum and History Center.
Coppola Jazz with Amanda Bellitto, a former Fairfielder, performed for an appreciative crowd of some 200 people on the grounds of the museum — part of the Jazz Fridays series, which runs through August.
The series — now in its fourth year — was underwritten by Silvia and Alan Neigher of Fairfield. Alan serves on the museum's board.

“The museum is such an amazing establishment in town,” Silvia said. “And this is free. You just bring a chair.”
Alan, an accomplished jazz pianist and local attorney, is thrilled to bring one of his first loves to Fairfield residents.

“We just get a lot of satisfaction having people come here,” he said, noting the quality of performers like Brian Torff — the previous week’s guest and the musical director at Fairfield University.
“It’s a joy for Silvia and me,” he said. “We love to see the looks on people’s faces.”
Along with lawn chairs and blankets, many people came early with picnic foods and drinks to enjoy before and during the show.
“This is one of our favorite summer events to be able to share with the community,” said Michael Jehle, executive director.
Next Friday, the museum will host Vinny and Ray — an Afro-Cuban, eight-member jazz group.
On Aug. 27, Chris Coogan, a popular local artist and teacher, will be playing.
Shows run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
