Kevin Kiley Appointed as Fairfield's New Selectman

It was a fairly quiet first meeting for Kiley after he was appointed to the board on Thursday night.

First Selectman Michael Tetreau and Selectman Cristin McCarthy Vahey appointed Board of Finance member Kevin Kiley as the board's new Selectman during Thursday night's Board of Selectmen meeting, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

Following the 2-0 vote, Town Clerk Betsy Browne administered the oath of office to Kiley, who then thanked town officials and his family for their support.

The Fairfield Republican Town Committee — — earlier this week. Kiley, 54, has served on the Board of Finance since 1997. He also served on the Representative Town Meeting from 1993 to 1997. He reportedly won the RTC nomination over Board of Finance member Robert B. Bellitto Jr., who last November for first selectmen.

"The next Republican selectman will need to know when and how to stand up for our principles and when to reach across the aisle for agreement," Kiley said. "My public service record and reputation represent my ability to succeed in either case."

According to the Citizen, Kiley was mostly quiet during his first meeting. Besides a few questions about the ongoing renovations at Kiley seconded some motions on other matters and then made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
