Local Fairfield Fencers Named State Champions
The high school Boys Foil team, led by Senior Captain Nathan Luna and Junior Captain Louis-Andrew Cazeneuve placed first.

FAIRFIELD, CT — This Saturday March 9th, 2024 was the CT High School Fencing Varsity State Championships hosted at The Morgan School in Clinton, CT.
Fairfield High School sent three teams to compete. A Girls Sabre Team, led by Junior Captain Gwendolyn Kenny was able to snag a 7th place finish. On her Squad was Marisa Rolle (senior), Riley Gross (sophomore), Drishti Duggal (senior).

The Girl's Foil Team led by Junior Captain, Catherine McDermott, who finished with seven victories and one defeat for the day took 4th as a squad. The girls foil squad also has Isabella Bellistri (junior), Lola Berchum (sophomore), and Annabella Scartozzi (freshmen) all competer on Saturday.
The Boys Foil team, led by Senior Captain Nathan Luna and Junior Captain Louis-Andrew Cazeneuve placed first. The squad also consists of James Geckeler (sophomore) and Aran Chandramohan (junior). Fairfield boys faced off against Waterford in the round of eight beating them 5 - 1. In the round of four the team faced off against defending team champion Guilford High School and won the match 5 - 3 securing their slot to the championship round.

Making it to the finals Fairfield had to fence off against Staples High School, the defending foil state champions. After the first round Fairfield High School was up 2-1 with Aran beating Staples' third position, Eric Wilson and Nathan beating their number 2nd position Peter Loranger. In the 2nd round Louis beat Eric after the 2nd round match score was 3 - 3. Aran won his last bout and Nathan had a close match against the previous week's state Champion, Max Piterbarg, but lost 5 - 2. With the match score at 4 - 4 Louis faced off against Eric Wilson and defeated him 5 - 4 finishing the match 5 - 4 and being named High School State Champions.
