Fairfield police have arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for recent thefts from vehicles in the Brooklawn Avenue neighborhood of town.

While on patrol early Friday, Officer Keith Perham arrested Ruben Cancel, 18, of Lincoln Avenue in Bridgeport, who reportedly admitted to breaking into vehicles in the area, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

Cancel allegedly had in his possession stolen items and contraband from three different vehicles parked in the area, according to the report.

He was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, three counts of sixth-degree larceny, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, and third-degree criminal mischief.

Cancel is being held on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 28.

"Perseverance pays off for dedicated officers in the Brooklawn/Stratfield section of town," Lussier said.
