Medal of Honor Recipient Michael J. Daly Remembered at Book Talk
Historian Stephen Ochs discussed his book 'A Cause Greater Than Self: The Journey of Captain Michael J. Daly, World War II Medal of Honor Recipient' at the Fairfield University Bookstore on Saturday.

Fairfield's own "hometown boy" Captain Michael J. Daly was remembered Saturday at the Fairfield University Bookstore. Daly, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient for his actions during World War II, is the subject of historian Stephen Ochs' book "A Cause Greater Than Self: The Journey of Captain Michael J. Daly, World War II Medal of Honor Recipient."
Nearly 100 family members, friends, and admirers of Daly -- who died in 2008 at the age of 83 -- turned out for the discussion, according to the Fairfield University Facebook page.
Daly was dismissed from West Point but went on to "display selfless courage and heroic leadership on the battlefields of Europe during World War II," according to a description of Och's book. During his time serving in the Allied Forces, Daly earned three Silver Stars, a Bronze Star with the "V" attachment for valor, two Purple Hearts, and the Medal of Honor.

After returning home from the war, Daly joined the board of St. Vincent's Hospital, where he became known as the "conscience of the hospital"," according to the book description.
