Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

Cauwels and Moxham: Co-founder, Shaun Moxham grew up in Brisbane, Australia and played professionally. He earned the No.3 rank in the World Junior Championships in 1988. He propelled to the Top 50 world ranked players and became the youngest coach ever to produce a world champion. That success led Moxham to create his own academy in 1998, located in Belgium, called MSquash.

Katline Cauwels was Belgium national champion at age 15, and at her peak, was ranked in the top 40 players in the world. Together, they joined forces and in 2014, moved to the United States with the ambition to start a High Performance Academy with the best global training technology. Katline holds two Master degrees and played professionally while in college.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Cauwels and Moxham:

  • Fun.
  • Interactive.
  • High performance sport.
  • Caring for the total athlete experience.
  • Ensuring total athlete well-being.

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Cauwels and Moxham: There are no huge challenges, but sometimes it is coaching players through losses, mindset or mental performance and balancing academics and training plans. In sports, losing is part of learning how to win, and injury sometimes adds another obstacle. While these are the most difficult moments in the career of an athlete, it is also the most rewarding to see players get back up. We call it ‘fall forward’.

Patch: What is the most satisfying part of your job?

Cauwels and Moxham: Satisfaction comes when we see positive changes from the efforts and changes players make everyday. We can work on building dreams and making those dreams come to life. We can shape dreams and see players develop into champions on and off the court. Being a champion has a different meaning for everyone. We work on turning players into champion people, and we love it when they walk out of the door, and we change their day — and sometimes their life.
