Obituary: George S. Cofield, 91, formerly of Fairfield

George proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a longtime dedicated employee of General Electric.

FAIRFIELD, CT - (From Spear-Miller Funeral Home) George S. Cofield, 91, of Bridgeport, former longtime resident of Fairfield passed away on Wednesday May 11, 2022.

George was the devoted husband of the late Barbara Jeanne Dillon Cofield. George was born in Cincinnati, OH on February 10, 1931 to the late Sidney and Margie Hancock Cofield.

George proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was also a graduate of Indiana University. George had a long and successful career working for General Electric.

After moving to Fairfield in 1973, George and his family became active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. George’s greatest times were spent with his family.

George is the loving father of George S. Cofield II (Wende), Gwyn Gartsu (Greg). He was the proud grandfather of Taryn, Megan & Caitlin Cofield; Katy, Nick & John Gartsu. A great-grandfather to Jameson Gysel; Alexandra, Josephine & Catherine Beauchamp; and Arvid Öhrberg.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Spear Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Rd, Fairfield on Tuesday May 17, 2022 at 11 AM. Burial will be private. Friends and family may visit at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10-11.
