Obituary: John Michael Dougherty, 33, of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT - (From Shaughnessy Banks Funeral Home) John Michael Dougherty, 33, of Fairfield, son of Michael and Connie Machado Dougherty, and sister of Kelly Dougherty, passed from this world on May 21, 2022.

Born in Bridgeport, John graduated Roger Ludlowe High School in 2006 and also attended Albertus Magnus College.

Most recently, he was employed by the Kennedy Center and was very involved in getting out the PPE during the pandemic. John was also a licensed CNA.

John loved baseball, was a well-known Varsity pitcher in High School, then American Legion team, college and with the Senior City team. He enjoyed music, playing the drums, guitar and bass and also competed in karate through Nazuka Dojo.

He was also a civilian member of the Civil Air Patrol Eagle Squadron in Stratford.

John was a gentle soul, a naturalist who loved all animals, birds and creatures.

In addition to his parents and sister, he also leaves behind his grandmother, Ana Plunkett; his aunt and uncle Anne and Craig Collins; his godmother and godfather Maria and John Sereno, cousins, and his best friend, Armando “Junior” Machado.

John was predeceased by his grandfathers, James Plunkett, Dr. John Dougherty and his grandmother, Wilma Dobie Dougherty and his uncle William Dougherty.

John was very loved by anyone that knew him. He had a smile that could light up a room. He had the biggest heart and always lent a helping hand. He will be forever missed and always in our hearts.

Friends are invited to greet his family on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
