One person was injured in a truck vs. tree accident on Congress Street on Monday.
Fairfield firefighters responded to the accident at 5:46 p.m. Monday and found a black Toyota Tundra with serious front end damage. The truck was off the road.
The driver of the vehicle was found lying in the brush nearby and had suffered "extensive trauma," Assistant Fire Chief Erik Kalapir said in a release.
The driver was transported by American Medical Response to St. Vincent's Medical Center.
The vehicle's other occupant, a passenger, reported no injuries.
The truck's left front tire was completely removed due to the impact with the tree. The steering wheel was heavily damaged, and firefighters disconnected the vehicle's battery to cut down the risk of fire.
The Department of Public Works was notified of the involved tree, which sustained serious damage, according to Kalapir.
