Popular Fairfield Restaurant To Expand With New Spot In Westport
The British-themed restaurant is moving into the Cross Highway location that most recently held The Porch at Christie's.

WESTPORT, CT — Gruel Britannia, the wildly popular British-themed restaurant in Fairfield, is opening a second location in Westport in the space that most-recently housed The Porch at Christie's.
Owner and chef Karen Hubrich recently made a brief announcement about the opening in a post on Instagram.
Additionally, gracing the front of the soon-to-be Westport location, at 161 Cross Highway, is a banner that reads, "The British are coming."

"We're opening a second GB, which is going to be in Westport at the old Porch at Christie’s on Cross Highway," Hubrich said. "There will be more information down the road, but this is happening, and we’re very excited."
An opening date for the Westport restaurant was not disclosed.

Known for English-style breakfasts, lunches and afternoon tea, in addition to prime rib and other dinners, the Fairfield Gruel Britannia is at 2217 Post Road. Over the years, the restaurant has catered fundraisers and various special events.
For a sampling of what Gruel Britannia serves, here's the description of its Breakfast Platter:
"Toad in the hole, bubble and squeak, onion gravy, baked beans & sunny side egg"
Or, from the dinner menu, the Ploughmans Plate:
"Homemade pork pie, scotch egg, cheddar, branston pickle, pickled onoins, salad & bread"
The Porch space has been vacant since late December, when the popular spot closed to allow its owners to concentrate on their Sweet P Bakery business in Norwalk.
