FAIRFIELD, CT — [On Wednesday], State Representative Jennifer Leeper was honored to receive the unanimous endorsement from the Fairfield Democrats to serve a third term in the State House representing the 132nd Assembly District.

"I am so proud of the Democratic leadership in our state and the ways in which we have delivered for the people of Fairfield, and CT more broadly. We’ve done the work to invest in people and families and have delivered meaningful relief through a historically difficult time." she continued. "We’ve achieved some major accomplishments together- from big issues like reforming the Siting Council to give communities a stronger voice in determining where utilities sited their infrastructure to pausing the implementation of the state’s Racial imbalance law so our children won’t be needlessly redistricted."

"We’ve had many other huge policy victories that directly improve many people’s lives. This tax season the middle class and our seniors should have felt the benefit from our historic tax cuts. We continue to pay down billions on our pension liabilities, freeing up revenue to invest in the people of this state. We maintained our education funding, invested in early childhood, and streamlined the teacher certification process. We made it easier for refugees to afford to make CT their home and we provided 100% property tax relief for 100% disabled Veterans." Leeper shared.

Leeper wrapped up her speech saying, "I have been in local and state government during a seemingly relentless barrage of “unprecedented times”. What I have learned is that people need each other; we are craving connection, belonging, and understanding. While, of course, this work is about enacting good policy, so much of it is also about listening and caring. I will continue to remain steadfastly committed to investing in systems and structures that support one another.

"People are exhausted by the toxicity of politics and want someone willing to engage
with them- without judgment- who will work to find common ground wherever it may lie. I
am committed to continuing to deliver this for my constituents and our community."

"Tonight, I have the sincere honor of nominating my dear friend Jennifer Leeper for
reelection as our State Representative in the 132nd legislative district. During these
past 4 years, she’s shown us a lot more than grit and work ethic – she’s shown all her
talents that have delivered for our Town and proven why we need her to keep working
for us in Hartford," said Lori Charlton, Chair of the Board of Finance, who nominated Leeper.

Charlton continued, "Jennifer is smart. She enjoys and excels in tackling nuanced, complex policy issues. She’s caring and passionate. She never forgets why she does the work, who she advocates for, and how policy decisions can reach into people’s personal lives. She’s tenacious. She takes a lot of incoming but doesn’t shy away from the tough issues, or sacrifice her integrity - and her success is grounded in her ability to listen, to analyze, and to build consensus and coalitions."

Leeper is in her second term representing Fairfield and Southport in the State House of Representatives. She serves as the Vice Chair of the Education Committee and member of the Human Services and Environment Committees. She previously served Fairfield on the Board of Education from 2017 to 2020. She lives in the Fairfield Beach neighborhood with her husband, Nick and two sons, Sam and Ben.

The 132nd District extends from Southport across Fairfield Beach and up to the University area.
