“The Fairfield Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Wellington added. “Our thoughts are with them as they grieve this heartbreaking loss.”
The child’s mother, Nicole, said her son was resuscitated, but remained in critical condition and on life support after the accident, which happened on July 16.
An ongoing GoFundMe campaign is raising money to help the family with funeral and burial expenses.
“Our family is in dire need of help during this unexpected tragedy,” Nicole Jones wrote, on the campaign website. “We need help with his funeral and burial arrangements.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the campaign had raised $4,155 via 97 donations towards its goal of $16,000.
“We would be incredibly grateful for any donations that can be used to help us cover these expenses,” Jones said. “No amount is too small and I’m asking that you please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Anthony is loved by his parents, siblings and friends. This is a great loss to our family.”
