WATCH: Fairfield Gym Owner Demonstrates 3 Beach-ready Moves

If you haven't started already, it's time to tone up for beach season.

Physical therapist, trainer, and PHYtness 4U owner Paddy Jarit shares three key moves to get trim -- moves you can do at home, in the gym, or even at the beach.

Good sport Tom Harding helped demonstrate the exercises. Harding came to PHYtness 4U for physical therapy following reconstructive shoulder surgery over a year ago and then stayed for the "excellent" gym membership.

First is the "bird-dog."

"You have to stabilize the core" for this move to be effective.

Next is a variation of the "bird-dog," which takes you closer to the ground (use a rolled-up towel to protect yohr face) to perform the same move.

The difference between doing the bird-dog on the knees and on the stomach is the latter tests your strength more than the former, which is more of a core stabilizer, Jarit said.

Finally, there's the single-leg partial squat, an exercise especially helpful for runners.

"It's a multi-joint exercise, so you get bang for your buck," Jarit said. It works the glutes, quads, calves, and when done well, it works the core.

Try doing two sets of 15-20 reps per exercise. Questions about yohr workout routine? Give PHYtness 4U a call at 203-292-9765.
