Woman Charged with Using Medicaid Card for Forged Rx Purchase

A Meriden woman was arrested Monday in connection to an alleged case of Medicaid fraud, Fairfield police said.

The suspect reportedly used her state-issued Medicaid card to purchase 180 Oxycodone pills with a forged prescription in February of 2012, according to the arrest report. Medicaid covered the fraudulent $260 purchase at a Fairfield CVS.

Crystal Coffey, 31, of Pleasant Street, was charged with second-degree larceny, a charge that includes "defrauding a community," which covers the alleged use of the Medicaid card to purchase pills with a forged prescription, Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said.

Coffey was detained by Meriden police and served the Fairfield warrant on Monday. She was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 11.
