Major Supermarket Chain To Open New Store In Farmington/West Hartford
The company announced on Wednesday that the 53,000-square-foot store will be built on the site of a prominent shopping mall.
FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — A major New England-based supermarket chain will open a new store at a prominent shopping mall in Farmington/West Hartford.
Officials with Big Y announced on Wednesday that it will build a new supermarket at the Westfarms Mall, located in Farmington and West Hartford.
Big Y Foods, Inc. is an independently owned supermarket chain that operates locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Calling the mall "central Connecticut's premier shopping center," company officials said the location was a perfect match for its expansion plans.
“We’re thrilled to become part of the vibrant Westfarms community after a long search
for the right opportunity,” said Mathieu L. D’Amour, vice president of real estate and
development.

“This new location will deepen our connection with customers in central Connecticut and allow us to continue delivering our signature customer service through our exceptional and knowledgeable employees.”
While the announcement was made this week, the store itself won't open until 2027.
Big Y’s Westfarms store, which will be approximately 53,000 square feet, is slated to open in the spring of 2027.
The new building will go on the southern side of the Westfarms property.
Big Y said more details, including hiring opportunities and grand opening events, will be "shared in the coming months."
