Bears Snag Some Food Inside Granby Home: DEEP

A black bear and three cubs helped themselves to some delicacies inside a house on Barndoor Hills Road Saturday, according to the DEEP.

GRANBY, CT — For decades, the teams at Granby Memorial High School have been called the Bears, but on Saturday, a family on Barndoor Hills Road encountered the real thing inside their home.

The EnCon Police division of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEEP) was summoned to a house upon a report that a black bear with three cubs had entered through a basement screen door. The bears took some food items and left the residence prior to EnCon arrival, according to DEEP spokesman James Fowler.

The occupants of the house safely exited without injury. A subsequent search of the area did not locate the bears, Fowler said.
