Breast Cancer Fundraiser to Take Place In Granby Saturday

You can get pampered for a good cause Saturday in downtown Granby.

Nail treatments from new Granby salon Studio 17 and massages from new personal health business Anew Massage and Wellness are the major offerings at the event, which will raise funds for local breast cancer awareness and research.

The nail treatments will be done in pink shellac, a most appropriate color for a breast cancer awareness event, by Studio 17 owner Shirley Fauteaux-Dunn and other employees at the salon. The chair massages will be provided by Anew Massage and Wellness owner Amanda Stenhouse and Jessica Moore, both licensed massage therapists. At only $1 per minute, visitors to the event can enjoy a massage while making a positive contribution.

Gift certificates will be available as well, with $10 from each certificate benefiting the same cause. Additionally, general donations will also be accepted.

“We are going to be donating all the money to the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative,” Moore said.

The Connecticut Breast Health Initiative (CBHI), a locally oriented non-profit organization, is focused on raising awareness of breast cancer in Connecticut.

“Our mission is to make a difference locally in the fight against breast cancer through education and research,” the organization wrote in its mission statement. “Our desire is to find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.”

Connecticut ranks 35th in the US for its breast cancer mortality rate, according to statistics from CBHI. The non-profit uses funds raised in towns across the state, including Enfield, Hartford, Essex, Niantic and others. The money raised helps fund awareness and research programs that have not yet qualified for federal grants. Founded in 2004, the state-based organization has raised more than $1.8 million since its inception.
